Kent Fire and Rescue Service Community Volunteers are people from all walks of life and all sections of the community who have an interest in helping Kent Fire and Rescue Service deliver their safety messages throughout Kent and Medway.

Oakwood Park Grammar School Volunteering Day - 22nd May 2018

Oakwood Park Grammar School are looking for groups or organisations that could use some volunteers on the 22nd May 2018.

The pupils are between 12-15-year olds; if you could take a large group they should be able to provide staff supervision.

Road Surface Improvement (Micro Surfacing) A229 Cranbrook Road,

Kent County Council will be working to improve the road surface of Cranbrook Road, Staplehurst, between the Knox bridge and the entrance to Iden Manor and Winthrop Hall.

These road surface improvement works are programmed to start on 14th May, 2018 and should take 3 days to complete. These activities will be undertaken during a working window between the hours of 09:30am and 3:30pm.

Temporary Road Closure – Staplehurst Road, Frittenden

from 16 April 2018 for up to 5 working days

The road will be closed outside “Pullen Barn”.

The alternative route is via Frittenden Road, A229 High Street, Headcorn Road, Four Oaks Road, Summerhill, Water Lane, Green Lane and vice versa.

The closure is to enable a fire hydrant replacement to be carried out by South East Water.

A vacancy for a parish councillor has arisen following the resignation of Cllr Anne Gosling.  Following the statutory advertising of the casual vacancy, the Parish Council is authorised to fill the vacancy by co-option.

Temporary Road Closure – Marden Road, Staplehurst – from 7 May 2018 for up to 6 weeks

The road will be closed between Station Road and Lime Trees.

The alternative route is via A229 Station Road/Maidstone Road/Staplehurst Road, B2079 Maidstone Road, Howland Road, Battle Lane, Marden Road and vice versa.

The closure is to enable gas mains replacement works to be carried out by SGN.

Sunset Cruise on the Kentish Lady; in aid of the Kent MS Therapy Centre

Sunset cruise in aid of the Kent MS Therapy Centre on Sunday 24th June 2018 on board the Kentish Lady on the River Medway in Maidstone from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.

The cruise will feature a 6 mile round journey on the River Medway, a Finger Buffet, and Charity Raffle.

Access will be maintained for residents and local businesses and amenities at all times.
30/3/18 - 15/04/18: Road “closure” at two locations on Headcorn Road (opposite site entrance and near to crossroads)

03/04/18 - 04/05/18: Road space booked along Headcorn Road (most of this work will be in the verge)

30/04/18 – 11/05/18: 4 way traffic lights on crossroads of Headcorn Road, Station Road and Marden Road.

07/05/18 – 18/05/18: Final stretch of works to substation (on green by Chestnut Avenue and Marden Road) to make point of connection.

The alternative route is via Hawkenbury Road, Four Oaks Road, Summerhill, Water Lane, Green Lane, Staplehurst Road, Frittenden Road, A229 High Street and vice versa.

The closure is to enable new ducting for a high voltage cable to be carried out by Tri Connex.

Alternative route via Five Ash Lane, Snoad Lane, Pristling Lane, Goudhurst Road and vice versa

There are two Government consultations which seek views on: 1) reforming developer contributions to affordable housing and infrastructure; and 2) text of the National Planning Policy Framework. The Government deadline for comments on both consultations is 10 May. 

New Consultation on Taxi and Hackney Carriages in Maidstone

A new consultation on Taxis and Hackney Carriages has just been published by Maidstone Borough Council and is open until 27th May 2018.

If you use taxis in Maidstone then they want to hear from you. At present there are 48 Hackney Carriages licensed by Maidstone Borough Council, they are considering if this limit is still appropriate. In addition they are seeking to find out what you think of the service you receive from taxi operators.
